Goals and Objectives At the end of the clerkship the student will be able to: Appreciate the role of pathology in patient care and interdisciplinary conferences. Handle tissues in a safe and responsible manner. Engage in the entire process and workflow of tissue diagnosis, from accession to sign-out. Perform and understand the role of an Autopsy.

Get Involved … Attend and participate in the prosection of an autopsy
Intraoperative frozen sections
Dissect and gross in surgical pathology specimens, write cases up, and sign out with attendings.
Attend multidisciplinary conferences including those discussing your surgical pathology case.

Immunohistochemistry
How are students evaluated? Students are expected to be actively involved on the service including attending an autopsy, grossing in specimens, reviewing histology and writing-up of cases. Participation in and attendance of sign-out sessions is important. Students are expected to attend resident didactic conferences and some multidisciplinary clinical conferences. Students are required to give 2 – 15 minute case presentations as part of GI conjoint and Blue-box resident conferences.

General Clerkship Information Duty hours: 7:30 AM to 5-7 pm (varies according to service activity) Students carry a pager that is provided by the clerkship coordinator for the duration of the clerkship. Arrangements for time off are scheduled through the clerkship coordinator.
