1.0 Elementary Reading Components of an MTSS Model Preview and Implications

Overview of Tier 1 Reading Sessions Four topics: DIBELS Essentials (2 days) Tier 1 Reading Systems (1 day) DIBELS Data Interpretation (1 day) Grade-Level Problem Solving (2 days)

Activity 1.1 Access the document titled, “MTSS Professional Learning Overview: Tier 1 Reading” Independently read pp. 3-8 to better understand what staff, School Leadership Teams and principals will be asked to do following the professional learning sessions Outline questions and areas where more clarification is needed

Tier 1 Reading Potential Barriers Focused around two of the four topics Tier 1 Reading Systems Grade-Level Problem Solving

Activity 1.2 Access the document titled, “Preventing Tier 1 Reading Barriers.” For each of the common elementary-level barriers, identify if you believe it will be a potential barrier in your schools by circling yes or no For each barrier you circled yes to: Use the bulleted points to further discuss the potential barrier Initiate your district’s barrier removal process

2.0 Secondary Reading Components of an MTSS Model Preview and Implications

Overview of Tier 1 Secondary Reading Sessions Two topics: Tier 1 Secondary Content Area Reading (SCAR) Series (2 days) Tier 1 Secondary Content Area Reading Strategy Instruction: 1 day to start then additional content area reading strategies will be introduced to teachers / staff when data indicates readiness
