Calcium by: Christina Raie

On the Periodic Table Calcium is an Alkaline Earth Metal Its Atomic Number is 20 Mass of 40.078AMU Boiling Point 1484.0ºC 1757.15K 2703.2ºF Melting Point 839.0ºC 1112.15K 1542ºF

Characteristics It has a dull gray, silvery color to it. Solid at 298 K Brittle and Ductile Conductor of Electricity Reacts with Oxygen from the air When it reacts it immediately changes into calcium oxide which is an insulator Radioactive with water

History First used by the Ancient Romans. Prepared lime as calcium oxide 1808, England, Sir Humphrey Davy isolated it. Jöns Jakob Berzelius prepared calcium amalgem by electrolizing lime in Mercury. This is what motivated Sir Humphrey Davy to attempting at isolating Calcium

Why is it Essential for kids? If growing kids, and teenagers don’t get enough calcium, or as much as they need, their bones will not be as strong as they could be. This will cause weak bones and weak bones break more easily. They should get 1200mg of calcium a day.
