Spring Tides Tides have the greatest tidal range due to alignment of the Earth-moon-sun system.

Neap Tide Occurs during 1st and 3rd quarter moons. Gravitation pull of sun and moon slightly cancel each other out. Produces the lowest tidal range.

Spring & Neat Tides Both Spring & neap tide occur twice a month. Largest tidal range in the World- Bay of Fundy Nova Scotia, Canada http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGU8JuzIjU8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfhNjpu_IU4

Beach Erosion Do you recall, what is erosion? Causes of beach erosion Waves Wind Storms

Beach Erosion - Solutions Groin or Jetty Seawall Beach (Re) nourishment

Groin or Jetty

Groin or Jetty Structures that protrude into ocean perpendicular to the coast. Pros: Stops longshore drift from carrying sand away from a localized area of beach. Cons: Causes depletion of sand on the downside of the structure.

Seawall

Seawall An upright wall that runs parallel along the coast. Pros: Intended to protect land from wave erosion. Cons: Causes severe erosion of the beach in front of it.
