It’s All About Families We are all in our thirties, working single mom’s with dependant children while pursuing higher education. The three of us are Students, Parents, & Employee’s we drive a lot!!!! We cook, maintain our homes, & family activities (vacations, sports, commuting, & more), If we want it we have to have it now! We do try and recycle however purchasing recycled products can be costly. Ultimately we depend on cheap and convenient.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT Energy Our average electrical usage is 6,828 Kwh annually Our average natural gas usage is 360 Therms annually Transportation Our average mileage annually is 20,532 miles Water Our annual average usage is 157,224 gallons per household For cooking, watering our gardens, drinking, bathing and normal daily activities

Total population for these 9 counties is 7,116,481 With a total carbon footprint of 35.81 mil tons Average 5.032 tons of C02 per capita in the San Francisco Bay Area

California's Carbon Footprint Score: #46 California's Carbon Emissions Score: #2 California Percentage of Population that Carpool 13% California State Hybrid Vehicle Ownership Ranking #1

The United States of America The US ranks first in carbon dioxide emissions according to the World Resources Institute, five countries (the US, China, Russia, Japan, and India) contribute more than 50% of the worlds total carbon dioxide emissions. The US ranks first contributing 22% of the total.

CO2 Emissions most recent by country by thousand metric tons # 1   United States: 5,762,050  # 2   China: 3,473,600  # 3   Russia: 1,540,360  # 4   Japan: 1,224,740  # 5   India: 1,007,980  # 6   Germany: 837,425  # 7   United Kingdom: 558,225  # 8   Canada: 521,404  # 9   Italy: 446,596  # 10   Mexico: 385,075

Proposal for Change On a National Scale Eat less meat Use a tank less water heater Replace inefficient heating systems with energy star heaters Replace windows with double or triple pane Put weather stripping around doors and windows Install a programmable thermostat Invest in a pellet stove Go solar Maintain your vehicle, it creates less carbon emissions when working efficiently Carpool Ride a bike to school and/or work

Proposal for Change What can we do? Ride bikes with our families instead of driving Use a clothes line to dry our clothes Change appliances to energy star appliances and donate the old ones to needy families Buy a water filter instead of bottles water Go digital . . . For example e-books Do your grocery shopping in a single trip Don’t rinse dishes before loading the dishwasher Install dual flush toilets Replace showerheads with low flow fixture Collect rain water for watering your garden

Summary Carbon emissions to global warming and are caused by the burning of fossil fuels. They create the largest percentage of the greenhouse effect. The US ranks first in carbon dioxide emissions according to the World Resources Institute, five countries (the US, China, Russia, Japan, and India) contribute more than 50% of the worlds total carbon dioxide emissions. The US ranks first contributing 22% of the total. With proper education and implementation of reducing carbon emission we can decrease our carbon footprint.
