Today’s Contents: Report and Visualization Assemble a display Visualization Type Display Properties Filter Visualization Hands On

1. Assemble a Display

Display After discovering the insights in your data and creating your Discovery Sets, use Display to build and communicate your data story to others by creating dashboards and infographics based on the discoveries you’ve found in your data. DISPLAY DISCOVER DATA

Display Create a Display of relevant analyses that you want to monitor on a regular basis. Simply browse through your discoveries and selectively drag the visualizations you want onto the dashboard canvas. You might set filters globally across all tabs, or per tab. You can modify visualization types and properties.

Display When you’ve finished building a display, you can share it by email, download, link or social media. You can save the display in your Personal directory. You can move dashboard to another folder on the Landing Page

Manage the Display At this point, you can: Change a visualization currently in your Display Modify the overall appearance of the Display, as well as the individual visualizations Filter the data appearing in the Display

Visualization Type

How to change visualization types You have created a Display of relevant analyses that you want to monitor on a regular basis. At this point, you want to change a visualization currently in your Display. To do this, enter Edit mode, select the visualization you want to change

How to change visualization types Enter focus mode for the visualization.

How to change visualization types While in focus mode, you can change the type and format of the visualization.

How to change visualization types When changing the visualization type, Watson Analytics performs an analysis of the data items used in this visualization. It then recommends the best possible options for changing to a new visualization type.

How to change visualization types You can also choose from a variety of other visualization types.

How to change visualization types For example, in this case, you will choose the most recommended Bar visualization.

How to change visualization types

How to change visualization types You can format the visualization to suit your preferences.

How to change visualization types For example, you can use the Variations feature to swap the axis and stack the columns.

How to change visualization types You have now changed a visualization type in your Display.

Display Properties

How to modify properties of a Display You must be in Edit mode. To modify properties that affect the entire Display, ensure that you do not have any visualizations selected.

How to modify properties of a Display You can modify the background of the Display, using a Theme, or by choosing a specific background color. Notice that, any changes you make to the current tab, are also propagated to all tabs in the Display.

How to modify properties of a Display You can also add widgets to the Display, to enhance its visual appearance. These can include basic objects such as Text, Image, Media, or Web page. You can also choose from a wide variety of shapes that help you communicate and enhance understanding of your Display.

How to modify properties of a Display To modify properties of an individual visualization, select it in the Display, and then click Format. There are many formatting options for individual visualizations. You can change the Title Style by choosing to hide, or show the title, or to show, or hide filter details.

How to modify properties of a Display There are also options changing the appearance of objects in the visualization itself, including Line, Grid, Legend, Vertex Symbol, Axis titles, and legend position.

How to modify properties of a Display You can change the color palette, set the opacity, and modify the colors for Background, Border, and Element. Depending on which visualization you select, the available properties may be different.

How to modify properties of a Display If you select more than one visualization, you can set properties for multiple visualizations at the same time, but only properties that are common to all selected visualizations can be modified.

How to modify properties of a Display You can modify additional properties for a visualization if you enter focus mode You can change the visualization type. You can show the Smart title for the visualization. The Smart title provides more descriptive information, including keywords and question phrasing for how the visualization is derived.

How to modify properties of a Display You can create a Custom title. You can also modify data items in the visualization using the data tray.

Filter Visualizations

How to filter visualizations in a display You must be in Edit mode. You can filter data on all tabs of a Display, using the global filters region. You can filter data on the current tab using the local filters region.

How to filter visualizations in a display Because a Display can be created using Discovery sets that represent different data sets, the data items in the Filters list are from any data set represented in the Display.

How to filter visualizations in a display There are two methods to add data items to the Display so that they can be used as Filters: If you use drag and drop, you can add the data item to either the local filters region, or the global filters region. You can also add data items using the plus sign beside the data item. Clicking the plus sign adds the data item to the local filters region only.

How to filter visualizations in a display To apply the filter, you must choose values from the data item.

How to filter visualizations in a display If you add a data item representing categorical data, you can choose from a list of distinct values.

How to filter visualizations in a display If you add a data item representing continuous data, you can choose to filter on a range of values using the slider.

How to filter visualizations in a display In this case, you have added and applied a filter in the global region. The result is that you have filtered data, not only the current tab, but also on other tabs in the Display.

How to filter visualizations in a display You can filter using hierarchies. After adding the filter, you can begin to select values from the 1st level in the hierarchy. Or, you can navigate to the next level to select values.

How to filter visualizations in a display You can filter individual visualizations in a Display, by selecting a data item in the visualization, and then choosing to keep or exclude the data item. Exclude removes the data item, while keep excludes all other data items and keeps the selected data item.

How to filter visualizations in a display You can also filter a visualization while in focus mode.

How to filter visualizations in a display In focus mode, you have access to the data tray, where you can apply filtering to data items that are not part of the visualization. Note that, the data items in the data tray are from the data set that was used to create the current visualization, not from any other data set.

How to filter visualizations in a display Once filters are applied, you can show the filter details by modifying the properties of a visualization. All filters are displayed in the filter details including those applied, in the global and local filters region, using keep or exclude, and while in focus mode.
