An Overview for Parents Blended Learning An Overview for Parents

“The most important thing that schools can do is not to use technology in the curriculum more, but to use it more effectively.” --J.G. Palfrey/U. Gasser

Agenda:

What is Blended Learning? Blended Learning is an instructional model that blends: Direct instruction Collaborative learning Individualized computer-based learning

What Does a Blended Learning Classroom Look Like? Station-Rotation Model Block class period Students rotate in small groups Frequency is at least 3 times per week (by the end of the year)

What Do You Mean “Computer-Based” Learning? The computer program adapts to meet the needs of every individual student. Allows students to practice skills they struggle with or move ahead as they master content. Teacher is alerted if a student is “stuck.”

How Does Blended Learning Benefit Students? Teachers receive instant information about what students do and do not understand. Teachers can individualize instruction. Each student has his/her own learning plan.

Blended Learning in Action

Why Has Our School Decided to Implement Blended Learning? Blended learning can lead to significant improvements in students’ achievement. Blended learning will help our students use technology responsibly and effectively.
