Welcome to Central magnet school Ms. Lane 6th grade science

About ms. Lane Originally from Nashville, TN Attended and graduated from Martin Luther King Magnet High School in Nashville Graduated college with a B.S. in Animal Science and a Master of Science at University of Tennessee (Go Vols!) Entering my 13th year teaching and my 9th year here at Central Magnet Contact info lanela@rcschools.net

6th grade Science curriculum *standards have changed! Physical science- energy, heat transfer Life science- population interactions, food webs, biomes, adaptations, biodiversity, invasive species Earth science- atmosphere, wind, ocean currents, weather, water cycle, renewable/nonrenewable resources

Grading policies Total points system - For example: tests are worth more than homework assignments - Test: 75 points Homework: 10 points Penalty for late work Homework late pass- given out once per nine weeks and student has to keep up with the pass to be able to use it on a HW assignment Retaking tests- Retakes will be offered at teacher discretion only. Students will not be able to retake all tests. If a retake is offered, the student will have to complete a series of steps and assignments before the retake can be completed and parent must sign original test.

Teacher webpages Powerpoints from class available Links for certain assignments for access at home Notes or assignments to print from home Announcements- picture day, early dismissal day, upcoming study session, upcoming test, etc.

iNow grade portal Checking grades is SO important If you do not have access to iNOW, you will need a username and password from Ms. Dodd in attendance Grades updated weekly (if not more frequently) Progress reports sent home- signature required if grade is C or below

Supply list Paper Pens and pencils Colored pencils/markers Binder or folder (to keep graded work, worksheets, notes, paper) Composition book for bell work AGENDA is the KEY to success! (writing down assignments for EVERY class EVERY day)

Wish list Ziploc bags- sandwich size and gallon size Clorox wipes Paper towels Fun size candy- for student rewards Candy cart

Dress code Shorts or skirts must be finger tip length NO low cut tops- undergarments should not be visible Leggings are acceptable IF the top is finger tip length Holes in jeans must below finger tips NO off shoulder tops/dresses/ blouses

Locks and lockers Students were assigned lockers this morning. Those are their lockers for the entire school year They can rent a lock for $2 but most students don’t
