Not permitted! No food, candy, or drinks are allowed outside.

Play with respect Maintain your own space at all times. If games get too “rough”, it will end.

Stay on the blacktop! Please do not throw anything into the ditch surrounding our play area. If equipment falls into the ditch, it is lost for the day! You are not allowed to jump into, over, or attempt to fly things over the ditch! Doing so will result in the loss of recess!

Oh no! Someone is hurt! If someone is injured, IMMEDIATELY let a teacher know! If you do not notify a teacher when an accident occurs, you could be punished! You have a RESPONSIBILITY to treat everyone with respect.

Please respect nature Make sure the bark stays on the trees Leave the plants alone Do not attempt to throw pinecones or other items that should be left on the ground or the living plant it is currently growing on!

Recess Dress Code Keep your shoes on at all times If your shirt does not have sleeves, you must wear a jacket over it! No tank tops!

Equipment Return equipment to the plastic bins when finished so equipment manager can carry it in.

Be Quiet! Go out and come in quietly since other classes are meeting (refrain from talking in the hall)

Recess is over… When you are signaled to come in (whistle), stop playing immediately and line up

Pay attention! Recess ends when you line up (no water or restrooms without a fee after this time)

Emergency! A continuous whistle means there is an emergency and ALL students need to line up immediately

May I?... Ask permission to enter the building and then return to the playground quickly when you are finished inside

Thank you for your cooperation! We EXPECT you to know and follow these rules at all times. REMEMBER there will be consequences for those who choose to break the rules. Any questions?

When responding to any adult, you must answer by saying “Yes, ma’am,” “Yes, sir” “No, Sir,” or “No, ma’am.” “Yes” and “no” are also acceptable. Just nodding your head, saying “yeah”, and saying “huh” are not acceptable.

When you interact with people, use their names When you interact with people, use their names. Rather than just saying, “Thanks,” say “Thank you, Mrs. Szakasits.” During discussions, respect other students’ comments, opinions, and ideas. Show that you are listening by using the person’s name in your response. For example, “I agree with John, and I also feel that…”

If someone in the class wins a game or does something well, we will congratulate that person. Claps should be of at least three seconds in length with the full part of both hands meeting in a manner that will give appropriate clap volume.

Always say thank you when I give you something Always say thank you when I give you something. If you do not say it within five seconds after receiving the item, I will take it back. There is no excuse for not showing appreciation. When you are given something, never insult the giver or imply that the gift was not appreciated.

Do not smack your lips, tsk, roll your eyes, or show disrespect with gestures.

Ask questions.

At times throughout the year, I will give rewards for behavior, academic performances, and other acts worthy of praise. If you ever ask me for a reward, however, it will not be given. It is rude to ask if you are getting a reward. You should behave and try your best because you are trying to better yourself, not because you are anticipating an award.

Every student will turn in homework each day for each subject Every student will turn in homework each day for each subject. We will count the number of days this class turns in all assignments. After the tenth day in a row, students will receive a reward.

When we are in transition from one task to another, the change will be swift, quiet, and orderly. We should be consistently able to turn from one book to another, complete with all homework and necessary materials, as quickly as possible. Our goal will be to complete the transition in less than 10 seconds.

You will make every effort to be as organized as possible You will make every effort to be as organized as possible. Find a place for things, and put them there. If you can find what you seek quickly, you are safe. If you cannot find sought items quickly, you have room to improve.

Make decisions, not excuses Make decisions, not excuses. You make choices about the things you do and behaviors you exhibit. Mistakes happen. Learn from them and move on.

Be thorough. There is no reward for finishing first, but there are many rewards for doing your best.
