With Hearts and Minds

With Hearts and Minds is a six week course. It offers an opportunity to consider how we take part in Mass. It is especially aimed at participants in the liturgy – which of course includes the ministers – it seeks to inform, and to promote a liturgical spirituality How do we pray Mass How do we live the Mass What is the connection between our lives and the Mass. How is the Mass source and summit of our lives in Christ? (click)

With Hearts and Minds Six sessions – ideally held over 6 weeks. (click)

With Hearts and Minds Each session has a common structure, and is intended to last about 90 minutes. (click)

There are two books. The Leaders book and the Participants Book (click)

The sessions in the Leader’s Book are identical to those in the participants book – except that they also have suggested answers printed in the margins! (Click to hide the leader’s material on this page Click again for the colour bar to fade away) The leader’s material offers ‘likely answers’ to the various questions posed – to help the leader in his or her role of moderating the discussion. The Leaders’ Book contains an introduction which offers guidance on working with small groups, especially intended for those who have not led similar groups in the past. Addition material has been prepared for parishes. (click)

This booklet is available free from the website. It offers guidance for parishes that have not organised small groups previously an initial training session for group leaders to introduce them to the programme and their role A follow-up meeting to review issues raised by the programme, and to inform and subsequent programme of liturgical renewal. With Hearts and Minds will assist many parishes greatly. At the same time it will not do everything. (click)

With Hearts and Minds It will: Provide opportunity for people to come together to talk about the liturgy Offer structured process for reading SC/GIRM/CTM Assist parish exercise responsibility for its celebrations of the liturgy What it will do Provide opportunity for people to come together to talk about the liturgy Offer structured process for reading SC/GIRM/CTM Assist parish exercise responsibility for its celebrations of the liturgy (click)

With Hearts and Minds It will not: Be the ideal resource for parishes that cannot cope with groups Reach 100% of the parish Be accessible for people at all literacy levels It will not Be the ideal resource for parishes that cannot cope with groups Developing groups takes time, takes effort. Some have objections to groups. They are not likely take to WHM. Reach 100% of the parish Not every one has time to join groups even if they have the inclination. We have suggestions about how to offer every help, but I guess if a parish finds above 20% of its number taking part they will be doing very well. 10% will be more than worthwhile. And even if its one group – they can become the leaven! But what about that 80 or 90%? An additional programme In Communion with Christ addresses this point. Be accessible for people at all literacy levels The material requires people to read CTM and so on. Even though it is offered them in paragraphs at a time not pages, some will find that too much. We are going to make a recorded version available for those who cannot read – but that won’t make it accessible and attractive to everyone. And we don’t apologise about that. There is a need for formation at all levels – and we did not want to offer bread and milk for everyone. However even if some parishes do not feel ready for WHM, it might be used by the parish team themselves, or by the Liturgy Preparation group to more firmly ground themselves in an understanding of the Mass, and to explore which formation issues they wish to give priority to.
