Isla de Alegranza Alegranza is an island of 11 million m2 in the Atlantic Ocean located off the coast of Africa and is in the province of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. It is in the northernmost point in the Canary Islands in the area near Jameo Mosque.

Alegranza Island The island is 10.2 km and is uninhabited. There is a lighthouse, Punta Delgada ,in the eastern part of the island which was built in 1865 and was designated as a historic monument. The island features a volcano with a crater of about 1.1 km in diameter and an altitude of 289 km. The second highest is Montana de Lobos at 256m and then La Rapagura. The northern portion is mainly flat.

Alegranza Island Alegranza is part of the Chinjio Archipelago Natural Park and includes the islands of Montana Clara, Graciosa, Rqoue del Este, Roque del Oeste also, and various islands of volcanic origin. Graciosa is the only inhabited island with a population of around 600. The name is derived from the Spanish word for “joy” and was given according to some scholars by Jean de Bethencourt because he felt joy upon spotting land
