The Civil War By: Amanda Adinolfi 7/T

An Introduction to the War The Civil War took place during the years of 1861 to 1865 The two sides were the North and South or, the Union and the Confederates.

Major Causes of the War One major cause of the Civil War was the fight between slave and non-slave states. Another cause was economic differences between the states.

Clara Barton Clara Barton 1821-1912 was a battlefield nurse in the Civil War, She was known as the “Angel of the battlefield” She was part of the Union but she took care of soldiers from both sides of the war.

A Turning Point The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the war because there were many casualties and this made it hard for the Confederates because they no longer had the physical strength to invade the Union.

Life On the Home Front One way the Civil war affected people who were not soldiers is that it divided many families. Life was hard for many families who had there fathers and brothers fighting in the war because there was no one to provide for them.

The End of the Civil War Soldiers of confederacy were demoralized, tired and had almost no way of winning the war. The civil war ended on April 19th,1865, with the surrender of the Confederate army. 620,000 Americans had died in the war. Thousands had been injured. The southern landscape was devastated.

Major effects of the Civil War Two major effects of the Civil War was the devastated land in the south and the end of slavery in the United States.
