Rice Canyon Elementary Orientation Rice Canyon Elementary School 2017-2018 School Year

Open Door Policy Please always communicate with the teacher first. Feel free to stop in to speak with Mr. Recatto or Mrs. Hernandez. If we are unavailable, an appointment can be made.

Attendance Studies show good attendance positively affects student achievement. If sick, don’t send child to school. Clearing Absences Within 5 days Call 24 hours a day or email patti.gonzales@leusd.k12.ca.us Need to be fever free and not vomiting for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.

Toys Toys are not allowed at school unless arranged with teacher for sharing time.

Dress Code Shoes should have a back. Safety P.E. Recess Shirt straps should be at least two adult fingers wide. Clothing should have only school- appropriate graphics and wording.

Drop Off and Dismissal Please use the loop for loading and unloading only. Please arrange a meeting place with your child. If you’d like to park, please use a parking spot. Please do not leave your car unattended in the loading and unloading loop. If someone different is picking up your child, it is helpful if you call to notify the office. Please use the crosswalk.

Early Pickup Please come to the office. Show ID. If sending someone else to pick up a child, that person needs to be an emergency contact and show ID.

Volunteers Applications are in the front office and online at School Web Site Red Badge Can work in classroom under supervision of teacher Purple Badge Can also go on field trips Need to wear badge while on campus There will be a training on site for volunteers

Online Registration Parent Portal Will register students online from now on. Update yearly Can see all students with parent account.

Messages to Students We will always communicate emergencies immediately. Classrooms are not interrupted for other messages.

Forgotten Lunches & Homework Classroom instruction will not be interrupted to deliver a lunch. Bring to the office. Write student’s name on the lunch. Students are instructed to check the office at recess or lunch for lunches or homework dropped off by parents.

Birthday Celebrations Please communicate with the teacher ahead of time if you’d like to bring a treat to share on your child’s birthday. All food items brought to the classroom must be store bought.

Allergies Please never bring anything with peanuts. We have students with peanut allergies. Latex balloons are not allowed on campus. Please remind students not to share food with other students to avoid allergic reactions.

Lost and Found Kindergarten/TK usually keep items in their classrooms. Please remember to write name on belongings All other lost items are placed in the lost and found bin. All unclaimed items are donated to charity before each break.
