What is a mastery grade? Work given after student has had opportunity to practice and feedback was provided Work that is completed at school under staff supervision Is 100% of the final grade Individual accountability piece for group projects – Use rubrics to provide understanding of what piece of the project will be practice and what will be mastery.

What is NOT a mastery grade? Work done at home Group work (unless there is an individual accountability piece) Extra Credit (is not given at our school) Practice activities

How many grades should be entered? For content area, classroom and elective teachers: a minimum of one practice or mastery grade a week. K-5 specialists: a minimum of one practice or mastery grade every other week; need at least 3 mastery grades by the end of the grading period.

When are grades entered? Grades are to be updated on a weekly basis; K-5 specialists every other week Grades must be entered by the following Monday at 5:00PM Teachers will have five (5 ) school days (with exceptions only for major projects) from the assignment due date to enter the grade. For major projects, teachers have up to 10 school days from assignment due date to enter the grade. When initial assessment is taken put into PS. If taken as a reassessment put the original score in as a “comment” in PS.

Who can be reassessed on the standards? Any student who has not shown mastery (80%) on standards assessed After students have reassessed, the highest grade they are able to get is 80%. Reassessment dates and original scores will be documented in PS under “Comment”

What needs to be done before a reassessment? All practice work (class and homework) and instructional technology requirements (Reading +, TTM, etc.) must be completed at a mastery level before the opportunity for a reassessment can be given There must be a reteaching component prior to reassessment Must be done within a week of original assessment Request to Reassess Form must be completed. Other classroom expectations may apply and will be documented on the Request to Reassess Form.

How many reassessments can be done? After one reassessment, leave standard as not mastered and continue to spiral back to standard and assess later in the year. Grades for quarters will not be changed after the last day of the quarter and a grade may not be given throughout the school year if that standard is not being taught during that quarter. Grades may still be given at teacher discretion. Reassessments cannot be done during instructional time.

What will it look like in PS? Grade for reassessed standard shall replace the original grade Reassessment dates and original scores will be documented in PS under “Comment” A reteaching comment / code must be assigned to all reassessed grades in PowerSchool

What is not factored in? Late work Cheating Missing work

Point values & grading Point values will be consistent within the grade level. The complexity of the assignment is taken into consideration to determine point value. Examples: - 30 – High Impact (Ex: Projects, Essays, Major Assessments, Unit Tests) 20 – Moderately High (Ex: Unit Tests, Writing Assignments, Presentations) 10 – Moderate Impact (Ex: Quizzes, Vocabulary, Labs, 5 – Modest Impact (Ex: Exit Tickets, Do-Nows/Bellwork, Check Ups from small group) Practice Grades (Ex: Homework – Can be put in a as a “check” to ensure communication from school and home.
