2007-2008 ABE/ESL-to-Credit Intervention The Primary outcome of interest for this intervention was to compare the proportion of students in Bridge classes (ESL classes with a specific career/skill focus) who earned college-level credits compared to students in traditional ESL classes over a one-year period. The Groups The Intervention group (blue) was based on: Enrollment in Bridge classes in fall 2007. Had no college-level credits to date. Willingness to receive advising. Were an ESL level 4 or 5 student. The Comparison Group (red) was created from: Students who enrolled in only traditional ESL level 4 or 5 classes. Who had no college-level credits to date. And who did not receive advising. Findings Findings suggest that the Intervention group were more likely to enroll in college-level courses than the comparison group. The intervention group was less likely to include Hispanic / Latino students despite their prevalence among ESL students. Of the 23 students in the fall 2007 intervention group, 21.7% enrolled in college-level classes. Only 2.6% in the comparison group enrolled in college-level classes.
