What about the 802 Functional Requirements? September 1999 doc.: IEEE 802.15-99/078r0 September 1999 What about the 802 Functional Requirements? This document defines the functional requirements and guidelines for the IEEE 802 family of Local Area Networks and Metropolitan Area Networks. The functional requirements include the use, environment, functions, and recommended performance of such networks. It also defines the functional requirements for interfaces and protocols. The guidelines are those items which, while not mandatory, give direction to standards developers in development of those standards. The material that is defined as requirements is shown in bold text, while the guidance material is shown in italics. IEEE P802, a Family of Standards September 1999 doc.: IEEE 802.15-99/078r0 September 1999 IEEE P802, a Family of Standards 802.15 MEDIUM ACCESS PHYSICAL 802.15 becomes one of the MAC/PHYs nestled under 802.1 and 802.2. We will have to comprehend this infrastructure in our standard. We do not have to be limited to only these interfaces, however. In addition, we may find it necessary to include the LLC within our realm, rather than depending on coordination with another Working Group in 802. (more about that later) Ian Gifford, M/A-COM, Inc.
