IEEE 802.11-IETF Liaison Report January 2005 doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 March 2005 IEEE 802.11-IETF Liaison Report Date: 2005-03-14 Authors: Notice: This document has been prepared to assist IEEE 802.11. It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. Release: The contributor grants a free, irrevocable license to the IEEE to incorporate material contained in this contribution, and any modifications thereof, in the creation of an IEEE Standards publication; to copyright in the IEEE’s name any IEEE Standards publication even though it may include portions of this contribution; and at the IEEE’s sole discretion to permit others to reproduce in whole or in part the resulting IEEE Standards publication. The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE 802.11. Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures <http:// ieee802.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf>, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair <stuart.kerry@philips.com> as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.11 Working Group. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at <patcom@ieee.org>. Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems

January 2005 doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 March 2005 Abstract This presentation contains the IEEE 802.11 – IETF liaison report for March 2005. Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems

Update: IEEE 802.11 Review of Link Indications March 2005 Update: IEEE 802.11 Review of Link Indications IAB draft on Link Indications, see http://www.drizzle.com/~aboba/IAB/draft-iab-link-indications-01.txt TGu will generate review comments at the March meeting Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems

New: IEEE 802.11 Review of Detecting Network Attachments (dna) March 2005 New: IEEE 802.11 Review of Detecting Network Attachments (dna) Link-layer Event Notifications for Detecting Network Attachments http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-dna-link-information-01.txt TGu will generate review comments at the March meeting Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems

March 2005 IEEE 802.11 EAP Keying Request from IETF to document IEEE 802.11 EAP Keying Requirements Input to the EAP Keying draft, see http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-eap-keying-05.txt Initial discussion held in TGr, in November 04, see 11-04-1498-00-000r-ieee-802-11-keying-requirements.doc EAP Keying draft is being split into two documents, one describing current EAP keying usage, and a second describing future extensions. Need to re-visit 04/1498. Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems

March 2005 Update: CAPWAP WG IETF WG formed 1Q04, Control And Provisioning of Wireless Access Points, re-chartered Nov04 WG Website: http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/capwap-charter.html Taxonomy document completed Next steps: Objectives Document, Protocol evaluation and base protocol selection document, CAPWAP protocol standard, MIB support standard. Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems

CAPWAP WG Request for IEEE 802.11Review of CAPWAP objectives document March 2005 CAPWAP WG Request for IEEE 802.11Review of CAPWAP objectives document Objectives Draft available early April 05; Will forward to reflector, requesting comments Recommend IEEE 802.11 Chair to form Ad-Hoc to prepare response Recommend Ad-hoc Conference Call April 27, 2005 Noon Eastern Draft and approve response at May 05 Cairns meeting Request for plan to resolve authenticator identity issue. The centralized model encourages AC implementations to use one PMK for many different WTPs.  This practice facilitates speedy transition by a station from one WTP to another WTP that is connected to the same AC without establishing a separate PMK.  However, this leaves the station in a difficult position.  The station cannot distinguish between a compromised PMK and one that is intentionally being shared. This issue must be resolved, but the resolution is beyond the scope of the CAPWAP working group.  The venue for this resolution is to be determined by the  IEEE 802 and IETF liaisons. Liaison discussion underway Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems

Benchmarking Methodology WG March 2005 Benchmarking Methodology WG Work described in http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-alexander-wlan-meth-00.txt is in scope for TGT IEEE 802.11 WG position – work should be done in IEEE 802.11 With updates to BMWG (Tom Alexander) Action: Document access by BMWG members Review of 802wireless world access presented to BMWG members Access to TGT draft in members area (when available), per 802 agreement, to BMWG Chairs Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems

Ongoing: RADIUS Extensions March 2005 Ongoing: RADIUS Extensions IETF Radius Extensions Working Group (RADEXT) is standardizing additional RADIUS attributes includes the standardization of LAN attributes, to enable use of authentication, authorization and accounting in wired and wireless LANs http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/radext-charter.html Proposed WLAN related attributes in http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-congdon-radext-ieee802-03.txt Comments welcome Dorothy Stanley, Agere Systems
