My Expectations of you

Topic: Our commitments to each other/my expectations of all students Lesson Objective: I will be able to explain what the affective filter is, why it is so important to learning, and how we can create a classroom culture to lower it. Essential Questions: What kind of classroom culture do we need to be successful in learning Spanish?

My expectations are purposeful. We need to develop trust amongst ourselves to remove our affective filters.

Be Respectful What does Respect have to do with Trust? How will we show Respect to each other in this class?

Performance Support Trust Respect

Here are some more specifics: Use language that positively builds each of us up. Do not use language that can offend or hurt ourselves based on our race, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation, the way we dresses or presents ourselves, or our interests and tastes. Allow each other to make mistakes without feeling embarrassed or bad. Do not tease or joke about our mistakes.

Be Responsible What does Responsibility have to do with Trust? How will we show Responsibilty to each other in this class?

Be a Team Player What does it mean to be a team player? What does being a team player have to do with Trust?

Other important expectations Focus on your own work & let others work. Do your own work, don’t copy. Be Yourself, Be Your Best Self

Reflect on the Essential Questions What makes learning a new language difficult? How can we learn a new language faster and better? What kind of classroom culture do we need to be successful in learning Spanish? Imagine a new student came in who has not been in this class yet. Explain in 1 sentence the affective filter, why trust is so important, what my expectations are, and how my expectations connect to the affective filter and trust.
