AIM-IRS NATIONAL MENTORING PROGRAM The higher you climb…..the better the view!

Objectives of Program Identify Career Goals Develop Plan to Achieve Goals Provide Tools to Achieve Goals The top three objectives of the program is to assess you strengths and weaknesses and identify your career goals with your mentor’s assistance. The next major object is to develop a career plan to determine what you need to do to achieve your goals. The program provides activities and tools to help the protégé achieve their career goals.

How does it work? AIM-IRS Membership Mentoring Program Applications Mentoring Program Handbook Nine Months of Mentoring Activities AIM-IRS membership is required for protégés to participate in the program, but mentors are not required to be members. The protégés and mentors must complete a Mentoring Program application to facilitate the matching process. The Mentoring Program Handbook provides all of the information, forms and tools to deliver the program. There are nine months of mentoring activities to complete the program.

Program Administration AIM-IRS National Mentoring Program Committee Local AIM-IRS Chapter Mentoring Coordinator Mentors/Protégés Collaboration The AIM-IRS National Mentoring Program Committee provides program oversight. The local chapter Mentoring Program Coordinator delivers the program. Mentors and protégés work together to complete each activity. The local chapter may collaborate with other employee organizations, management, and NTEU to promote and deliver the program.

Program Activities Self-Assessment – Strengths/Weaknesses Self-Awareness – Goal Setting Self- Development – Career Planning Each activity builds on the other and will lead to meeting the protégé’s career goals. The mentor and protégé work together to complete one objective per month.

Program Activities Time Management Skills – Deadlines/Priorities Presentation Skills – Oral Communication Shadowing Assignment – Target Position The mock interview is an opportunity demonstrate what the protégé has learned over the past eight months. Each objective must be met to complete the program.

Program Activities Networking Activity – Organizational Knowledge Job Application Writing Skills – KSA/LC Interviewing Skills – Prep/Mock Interview The mock interview is an opportunity demonstrate what the protégé has learned over the past eight months. Each objective must be met to complete the program.
