How does light travel when there is a solar eclipse? By Maya Bowyer

What is a solar eclipse? Does every part of earth see the eclipse? What is going on? A solar eclipse happens when the moon slides in front of the sun Does every part of earth see the eclipse? No, because when the moon passes the sun it is causing a shadow to come about. What is a solar eclipse? Why not? The shadow doesn’t fall on to all countries so you can’t see the eclipse everywhere How many months are there between eclipses? You normally have to wait 18 months for an eclipse to happen.

Why does it go dark? The sun light hits the moon causing the light to be blocked and a shadow of the moon is making it dark. The rest of earth doesn’t have the shadow on it so it doesn’t go dark. Light travels in straight lines and doesn’t bend. So when the moon lines up with the sun, the light has nowhere to go then it makes it dark on earth.

When was the last eclipse in the UK? The last total eclipse in the UK was on 11 August 1999. Even if the moon is way smaller(you can fit 4 moons inside earth.)So how does it happen? Well, if you think about distance it will be obvious. I’ll talk through it any way. So the moon is closer to earth than the sun is. Then when they get into line it looks as though they are the same size. The time on Big Ben(the Elizabeth tower)shows it is 9 o'clock in the morning.
