Why did people explore at that moment in history? Crusades – holy wars, spread ideas/goods Renaissance – rebirth of art and learning Technology – made it easier to travel and spread ideas Religious – stand up for Christianity Economic Motives – need direct trade routes Developed Nation States – consolidate money into one power, depended on trade to bring in revenues

Why did people explore? GLORY – to gain respect and power for their country GOLD – to gain material wealth and riches from the new land GOD – to spread Christianity
