How we are screwing stuff up, and how we’re trying to fix it Human Impact How we are screwing stuff up, and how we’re trying to fix it

But nature is a stranger yet; The ones that cite her most Have never passed her haunted house, Nor simplified her ghost. To pity those that know her not Is helped by the regret That those who know her, know her less The nearer that they get. -Emily Dickinson

Main topics for this unit… Water Earth Atmosphere

Water: Water covers approximately 70% of the planet! Of the total water on our planet… Oceans make up approximately 96.5% Fresh water makes up approximately 2.5% Other saline waters make up approximately 0.9%

Earth: Approximately 6.2 million species of living organisms are on land (numbers are from 2011—there are probably more than that now!) Almost half of the planet’s land surface is used for farming/food production.

Atmosphere: The atmosphere blocks dangerous rays from the sun. It traps heat, making Earth warm enough to sustain life. It contains the gasses needed for life processes.
