Women & Girls in STEM Programs at the U.S. Department of Energy

U.S. Clean Energy Education Empowerment (C3E) in partnership with MIT Energy Initiative and Stanford C3E Ambassadors Senior professionals in clean energy who serve as mentors and champions, as selection panel for mid-career awards, and as U.S. members of the International C3E Corps C3E Awards for Mid-Career Leadership Nationwide nominations across 8 categories; 36 Awardees have been recognized to date C3E Annual Symposia Hosted each year since 2012 by a university partner, convenes Ambassadors, Awardees, grad students (often presenting original research) and women in clean energy at all career stages. STEM Mentoring Café  Brings middle school students and their teachers together with federal STEM professionals through mentoring.  Aimed to increase confidence for students to pursue STEM careers.  In partnership with Department of Education, National Girls Collaborative Project, the Association of Science- Technology Centers (ASTC), a global organization supporting science centers and learning, and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the agency that administers AmeriCorps.

Fellowship Programs  Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program: Selects distinguished K-12 mathematics and science teachers to serve in professional staff positions for up to one year in Congress or at a federal agency.  Diversity in Science and Technology Advances National Clean Energy in Solar (DISTANCE-Solar): Promotes innovation in the solar industry while increasing representation from members of currently underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through 3-year solar research projects.  Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Science and Technology Policy (STP) Fellowship: Supports educational and professional development of leaders in energy efficiency and renewable energy policy, providing an opportunity for scientists and engineers with relevant energy technology experience to participate in policy-related projects at DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.  Office of Science: Graduate Fellowship Program: Supports outstanding students who are pursuing graduate training in basic research in areas of physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computational sciences, and environmental sciences.

Fellowships (Continued)  SunShot Science And Technology Policy Fellowship: Opportunity for scientists, engineers, and researchers to lead and improve projects to meet the goals of the SunShot Initiative.  SunShot Grid Engineering for Accelerated Renewable Energy Deployment (GEARED) Program: Supports increased power system research and development, while growing the expertise of electric utility sector professionals.  Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Postdoc Fellowship: Research opportunity for recent Ph.D. recipients to engage in innovative research at universities, national laboratories and other research facilities.  Awards advance the development of clean energy technologies.  Participants dedicate 80 percent of their time on a core research project and 20 percent of their time on an innovation project to encourage new ideas and concepts needed for the development of cutting-edge technologies.  American Association for Advancement of Science Fellowships (AAAS) Fellowship: Provides opportunity for scientists and engineers to learn about policy-making in energy efficiency and renewable energy while contributing their knowledge and analytical skills to the federal government.
