God Expects and Deserves Unity among His People Unity is required (Ephesians 4:3; 1 Corinthians 1:10; John 17) Division is condemned It is carnal (1 Corinthians 3:3) It is uncaring (1 Corinthians 12:25)
Problems can Occur in Good Churches among Good Christians They did at Philippi (Philippians 4:1-3) Typical human reactions to such problems: Coldness Avoidance Bitterness (Eph. 4:31; Hebrews 12:15) Separation (finding another church) This is not the solution commended in Scripture (Romans 16:1; 1 Corinthians 1-3)
Unity God’s Way Bear with one another in love (Eph. 4:2) Count others better than yourself (Philippians 2:2-3) Strive together for the gospel (Phil. 1:27) Avoid slander, gossip, tale-bearing, and tearing down (1 Timothy 5:13, 19; Titus 2:3; Proverbs 11:13; 26:20; Hebrews 13:17) Follow Jesus’ instructions for forgiving (Matthew 18:15-17; Luke 17:3-4; Mark 11:25; Ephesians 4:32)
