LOTF Culminating Journal MP4 Journal # 4 Read Notes on Lords of the Flies (pp 203-208) in your copy of the novel. Then answer the following. Answer all. “The theme is an attempt to trace the defects of society back to the defects of human nature…” (204) What do you think of the theme of this novel (“the emergence of this concealed, basic wildness”)? Do you agree with his vision of humankind? What symbolism is discussed in these notes? What are the major symbols in the novel and what could they represent? Why do you think Golding chose to tell this story with children instead of grown-ups? How does it serve the purpose of his themes? What elements does the use of children add to the novel?
