MOST COMMON ON TAKS TEST

-Tie back long hair -Do not wear loose sleeves (they tend to get in the way) -Do not wear open shoes -Wear lab aprons and safety goggles -Use tongs when handling hot glassware -Do not touch or taste any chemical (unless specifically instructed to do so) -To smell something, hold it away from your nose and wave your hand over it towards your nose -When heating anything in a test tube, point the mouth of the test tube towards the wall -When mixing acids and water, pour the acid into the water

MENISCUS – the curved shape that forms when water is placed in a glass or plastic container *to get accurate results : always measure the volume from the bottom of the meniscus

Mixing, transporting, and reacting

Finding a measured volume of solution

GREATER ACCURACY Volumetric Flask Pipet Buret

Mass – the amount of matter in an object Balance

Temperature – measure of amount of heat

-Observation -Hypothesis -Experiment -Model (Theory) Scientific Method – a systematic procedure for solving problems and exploring natural phenomena -Observation -Hypothesis -Experiment -Model (Theory) -Further Experiment

OBSERVATION …. ???? -lead to a question regarding event or characteristic

Hypothesis…. Prediction (if, then) -an answer to the question formed during observation

Experimentation -Steps taken to prove or disprove a hypothesis Experiment to test hypothesis

Data Quantitative data Qualitative data -obtained by making a measurement Qualitative data -descriptive data

Accuracy/Precision Accuracy Precision -how close a measurement is to the accepted/actual value Precision -indicates how close together or how repeatable the results are
