Device Purpose This machine is designed to return a tipped cup to its normal standing position Using lots of potential gravity energy and kinetic energy provided from balls rolling down inclines and levers, the cup moves from laying on its side to standing on its bottom

Energy Stage One Stage Two Stage Three Stage Four Initially, only potential energy from gravity At the instant before contact with the lever, energy is potential from gravity, kinetic, and some lost due to friction Stage Two Initially, potential gravity energy and kinetic At the instant before contact with the lever, there is potential gravity energy, kinetic energy, and some lost due to friction Stage Three At the instant before contact with the cup, there is kinetic energy and some lost due to friction Stage Four Energy is used to raise the cup, some also lost due to friction and pushing against wooden holders

Conclusions Overall, the project was a definite success. This project provided the opportunity to apply learned principles and learn to work with other engineers. The group coordinated efforts fairly well, but not perfectly. Our Rube-Goldberg Machine, although somewhat small and simple, was successful.
