The font should be Times New Roman and a 12 point font size
Margins should be set at 1” at the top/bottom/both sides
Spacing Double-space throughout the entire paper, including quotations, notes, outline, and Work Cited.
Heading and Headers A formal research paper does not need a title page. Beginning 1” from the top of the page and flush with the left margin, type on separate lines and double space between each line: Your Name Teacher’s Name Class Due date

Double space between the title and the first line of the text Double space between the title and the first line of the text. Do NOT underline your title or put it in a different font, or type it in capital letters or bold face type
Page Numbers Number all pages of the paper through the research paper in the upper right hand corner, ½ inch from the top Type your last name before the page number. Do NOT use the abbreviation “p” before a page number. Do not add a period, hyphen, or any other mark or symbol
In-Text Citation The original sources of all research info must be identified, whether it is a direct quote, paraphrased, or summarized in your own words. Give the author’s last name followed immediately by the page numbers.
In-Text Citations, continued If there are multiple authors, list each of their last names. If there are more than three, use the Latin abbreviation et al.
In-Text Citation Direct Quote If you use a brief direct quote, place the citation before the closing quotation marks, but before the end punctuation.
Works Cited Page The list of works cited is the last page of your paper. Center the title (Works Cited) 1 inch from the top of the paper. Double space throughout the entire page Begin each entry with a capital letter If the entry runs more than one line, indent the second line
Works Cited continued List each entry alphabetically by the author’s last name Do not number the list of works cited. Underline or italicize the titles of books.
