Why Website Transparency? The Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) was created to ensure that the public has access to public records of all government bodies in Illinois. The law was first enacted in 1984, amended in August 2009 with response times being reduced as of January 1, 2010.

Website Transparency Platform Transparency is interpreted differently by each agency. Orland Park’s platform utilizes the Illinois Policy Institute’s 10-Point Transparency Check List, giving residents online access to government information. Orland Park’s online Citizens’ Information Center is a comprehensive link center to information on all aspects of village government.

Challenges & Advantages Constant demand for updates to site information to remain 100% accurate at all times. Making historical data electronically available creates a minor challenge as well. Readily accessible information has reduced the number of FOIA requests.
