Mental Health Initiative Goals & Progress Organize multidisciplinary coalition of stakeholders, including CCS client & family representatives Map the Mental Health service system, identify gaps & barriers Develop system improvement recommendations Identify Mental Health providers’ experience with & interest in serving CCS clients and their families, provide needed training, build capacity Identify & address Mental Health provider billing & reimbursement issues specific to CCS

What We’ve Learned CCS clients aren’t consistently asked about/screened for Mental Health needs CCS families aren’t asked about/screened for Mental Health needs CCS children & youth & their families’ Mental Health needs are individual, varied, may be complex, & call for a continuum of services

What We’ve Learned (continued) CCS clients who successfully accessed Mental Health services generally had CCS, Family Resource Navigators and/or other navigational assistance The Medi-Cal Mental Health system directs clients with “mild to moderate” needs to Managed Care Plans – clients generally are not able to access care, providers aren’t available The Medi-Cal Mental Health system directs clients with “moderate to severe” needs to Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services – clients generally are able to access care, at various settings
