Survey In a nationally representative sample from the 1999- 2000 Chinese Health and Family Life Survey, Parish et al. (2004) found that 34 percent of women and 18 percent of men between 20 and 64 years of age had been hit during their current relationship Wang, Fang and Li (2013) conducted a quantitative study on men’s perpetration and women’s experiences of gender-based violence in China with 1,103 women and 1,017 men aged 18 to 49. Among female respondents who were ever partnered, 39 percent reported experiencing physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence. Men’s reporting was higher, with 52 percent of ever-partnered men reporting perpetration of physical and/or intimate partner violence. 2018/12/8

Multi- Sectoral Approach In July 2008, seven central governmental bodies – including the Publicity Department, Supreme People’s Procuratorate, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Civil Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Public Health, and All China Women’s Federation – jointly published Opinions on Preventing and Deterring Domestic Violence, which regulates the responsibilities of each institutions and was regarded as a breakthrough of the implementing multi-sectoral approach on against gender-based violence in China.
