Coastal Plain

Fall Line This is the point at which the hilly lands and mountainous regions meet the coastal plain. The line runs from Columbus on the western side of the state, through Macon, and into August on the eastern side. Rivers and creeks flowing from the rocky hill country cut deep channels in the softer soild of the plains, dropping the elevation and creating waterfalls.

The Chattahoochee River flows through Columbus, one of the cities located along the fall line marking the boundary between the Piedmont and Coastal Plain geologic provinces. The hard rocks of the Piedmont form outcrops that create rapids and waterfalls along the fall line.

Plains The Coastal Plain has two parts, the Upper Coastal Plain and the Lower Coastal Plain. The Lower Coastal Plain includes the actual coastal area of the state.

Vidalia The warm dry climate is ideal for growing the world-famous sweet Vidalia onions.

Savannah A seaport, Savannah is one of the oldest cities in Georgia. The statue of the waving girl located on River Street is the first thing sailors see when they enter the harbor.

Savannah River Street still has working trollies that take people on tours of historic Savannah.

Savannah Savannah is built around squares, with Forsyth Park being one of the most beautiful.

Cumberland Island The Live Oak paths on Cumberland Island are some of the most beautiful in the world. Cumberland Island is one of the Sea Islands, and is the largest in terms of continuously exposed land area of Georgia's barrier islands. It is located on the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Georgia .
