Unit 1
Class Procedures – cont. Lab is important We do – computer based, like Starry Night and hands on labs Points given for all activities. 1 report graded per unit.
Class Procedures – cont. Projects – one major project per semester, lots of smaller ones. Observations, presentations , reports One year we piloted an exoplanet project for the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics!
Class Procedures – cont. Frequent quizzes (weekly) Test at midterm and final at semester Extra Credit – cover page & article for each unit
Class Procedures cont. Please note: Make up labs/quizzes/tests must be made up during the scheduled open lab (unless prior arrangements have been made). If a student misses the make-up day no other make-up opportunity will be allowed. Open lab Tuesday & Thursday at lunch
Grades Standard grading scale 90% cumulative points - based on class assignments, lab activities, quizzes and tests. 10% semester final Students must maintain at least a C – or attend mandatory tutoring
Things students will need : 3-ring binder & dividers Calculator ( sci. notation, sqrt function) colored pencils or markers graph paper glue stick!
