Go Jump Prac #5 - Gravity
Aim To calculate how high you could jump on another planet. Materials Ruler Calculator Method Write “Refer to page 344 in text book” don’t rewrite the steps from your textbook
Results – copy both tables into your book Table 1: Jump height results Table 2: My jump on other planets Jump 1 Jump 2 Jump 3 Average To work out the average you plus all three of your jumps together then divide that answer by 3 Eg: 60 + 65 + 58 = 183 ÷ 3 = 61cm To work out your predicted jump height you divide your height by the number in the first column (gravity compared to Earth’s) Eg: 63cm ÷ 0.16 = 393.75cm
Discussion Conclusion 1. Identify the celestial body/bodies (planets/moon) on which you could jump: (a) the highest (b) the lowest (c )about the same as on Earth. 2. Astronauts on the Moon were able to jump higher than on Earth but not as high as you calculated above. Propose reasons why? Conclusion Tell me something interesting you learnt relating it back to your results
