Eighth Grade Trip Washington, D.C.

Departure Arrive at Smith School at 7:00 a.m. Drop your luggage at your assigned bus. DO NOT bring it inside. Busses will be numbered. Go directly to the cafeteria and find your chaperone. Busses leave Smith at 7:30 a.m. (With or without you!) YOU MUST BRING A BAG LUNCH TO EAT ON THE BUS! When we stop to pick up the tour guides in Maryland, you can use the bathrooms, but you will NOT be able to purchase food.

Dress Code What NOT to wear ANY TIME No Flip Flops No Hats No Jeans/Jean shorts/Jean skirts No T-Shirts No FITTED skirts No Strapless shirts STUDENTS NOT DRESSED APPROPRIATELY WILL BE TOLD TO GO BACK AND CHANGE BEFORE THEY ARE PERMITTED ON THE BUS IN THE MORNINGS.

Luggage ONE SUITCASE It will go under the bus and WILL NOT be available on Day 1. ONE CARRY ON It must fit in the overhead rack. Please have name tags on your bags.

Money Money for lunch each day (approx. $40.00 total) Spending money at family discretion

Music & Electronics Policy You may bring an iPod or CD player. No DVD Players No iPads or laptops CD players and iPods must stay on the bus during the day. Earphones will be removed when we are touring the city.

On the Bus Students must be seated, one student per seat. Food and garbage will be disposed of in the garbage bags. Water is the ONLY drink permitted on the bus. No talking when the tour guide or teacher is addressing the bus. The bathroom on the bus is NOT for use.

Food Allergies No peanut products may be eaten on the bus.

The nurse will give all medications from her room in the and in the evening upon arrival at the hotel. Students should not be carrying medications unless previously arranged between parent and nurse. All injuries and illnesses should be reported to the nurse. Bring your own sunscreen – it is often hot and sunny in Washington, DC Medication Procedures

On Tour Students are assigned to a designated chaperone. Chaperones must know where you are. Always have a partner. You are never alone. Appropriate behavior is expected.

Being On Time Students will be expected to report to activities and meeting places ON TIME. Students who are late will be denied special privileges and opportunities. All Students should wear a watch.

In the Hotel A curfew will be set. (Quiet time/lights out) Room checks will be made at night and in the morning.

In the Hotel Students who leave a room after curfew will receive disciplinary action: NO 8th grade dance and/or NO pool party. Parents will be assessed charges for any damage to the room. Students must respect the rights of other hotel guests.

Illegal Substances The possession or use of alcohol, drugs or cigarettes is strictly prohibited. If any adult on the trip suspects that a student is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the student must be taken immediately to a hospital for a drug test AND their parents will be called to come pick them up. In the event that a student is found in possession or under the influence, in addition to any school discipline that may occur, there will also be legal consequences.

Remember your behavior and adherence to the rules determines whether this is a great trip. Thank the chaperones for volunteering their time to make this trip possible.
