Welcome to 2nd Grade! Ms. Watters Room 13

Key Units   Key Units Math - Students will use knowledge of place value among addition and subtraction; as well as measurement, data, and basic geometry. They will be provided the tools to solve real world problems. English Language Arts - Students will continue to develop their reading skills in reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. In second grade we will focus on various genres of writing including narrative, informative, and opinion pieces. Students will also be working on speaking and listening skills. Social Studies-Rural and Urban Communities, Map Skills, Comparing and Contrasting the Past & Present, U.S Laws, Government and Famous People Science-Matter, Landforms, Rocks and Minerals, Life Cycles, Engineering and Habitats.

Homework   Homework will be sent home each night on Monday through Thursday and will be due the next morning when they return to school. The assignments will connect with skills that we are working on in class. Throughout the year, homework will include reading skills, vocabulary, spelling and Common Core Math concepts. In addition, each child is expected to read 20 minutes per night.  

Ms. Watters’ Class Specials Schedule Monday: Phonics’ Game 8:15-9:00 Art 9:05-9:50 P.E 10:10-11:00 Tuesday: Music 8:40-9:15 Science Lab 1:40-2:40 (every other week) Wednesday: P.E 10:05-10:55 Computer Lab 11:00-11:45 Library Time 12:30-12:50 Friday: Music 9:05-9:40 Performing Arts 2:10-2:50

Birthdays On the first Wednesday of every month at the end of the day, we will celebrate all of the birthdays together. The birthday students can bring non-food items to share if they’d like. *25 students
