The Role of SMEs in the CSDP 2. Present and Future on RPAS in Europe 3. The Use of Space in the Framework of CSDP

The Role of SMEs in the CSDP April 8 th, 2014 Background – Objectives The Heads of the Member- States highlighted on December 2013 the importance of an effective CSDP to enhance the security of European citizens for peace and stability in our neighbourhood as well as in the broader world. Such a CSDP requires effective military capabilities supported by a competitive innovative EDTIB across Europe. European SMEs, being the backbone of the EDTIB and an important element for innovation and research have a major role to play in the context of CSDP. Therefore, it is important for Europe to identify ways to support the SMEs especially in those critical areas related to the Security of Supply of European Operations within the framework of CSDP. The conference aims to analyze SMEs current and potential challenges within the European defence market as well as to investigate further cooperation and funding opportunities for innovative SMEs towards enhancing the CSDP. Target Audience The conference aims to create a forum with distinguished speakers, and an audience of senior officials from the European Commission, the European Defence Agency (EDA) and European Industries, senior military officers and civilian personnel from MS MoDs as well as from the academia and Research and Technology Organisations, for contributing to a real debate on the effective contribution of Small- Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to the implementation of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).

Moreover, a broader perspective will be given, not only focusing on military operation capacities, but also examining a wide range of civil applications. Ongoing and future common projects, such as Air Traffic Insertion, RPAS certification, European military cooperation and European MALE RPAS will be in the center of the the next generation analysis, in order to define common grounds on the field. Great importance will be given to a multi-angle approach on the issue, so covering as many points of interest as possible. Target Audience The conference aims to establish a synergy between expert speakers currently working on the topic within various organizations of different EU countries and an audience comprised of senior officials from the European Commission, the European Defense Agency (EDA), EUMS, European Industries, senior military officers and civilian personnel from MS Mo Dsas well as from the academia, in order to promote a dialogue on issues related to the implementation of the European Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) by the use of RPAS.

The Use of Space in the Frame of CSDP April 10 th, 2014 Space concept The conference aims at the contribution to the enhanced visibility of space with respect to the Treaty of Lisbon EU Space Policy comes as a support to all other EU policies, and most naturally to the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). The relationship between space, security and defence issues is growing closer. Recent EU-led operations have shown how important modern space technologies are. Space has also a strong strategic value, as it increasingly allows the EU to gain independence, scientific and technological prestige, and the capacity to act as a global actor. Target Audience The conference aims to bring together speakers who are experts on space matters from various EU organizations and Institutions and an audience comprised of senior officials from the EU Member States and Organisations, dealing with Space Policy and Projects.
