jonah Jonah 3:1-2 Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.”

Jonah WHAT is the difference between Jonah 1:1-2 and Jonah 3:1-2?

jonah WHAT is the difference in Jonah between Jonah 1:1-2 and Jonah 3:1-2?

jonah HOW do you think Jonah views the call of God to go to Nivenah now?

jonah HOW do you think Jonah views the call of God to go to Nivenah now? The 1st time he rose to flee The 2nd time he rose to obey “Jonah’s will has been broken, subdued and captured by God’s relentless pursuit of mercy and grace.”

jonah “When those who’ve fled from God are finally turned around, God always welcomes them back. He always welcomes- with open arms- those who realize that their only hope is to turn from themselves and race toward Him” -Tullian Tchividjian

jonah Jonah 3:3 Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very large city; it took three days to go through it.

jonah WHAT does God demand of Jonah the 2nd time around?

jonah WHAT does God demand of Jonah the 2nd time around? ANSWER: same thing!

jonah WHAT does that teach you about God?

jonah Did God ever throw Jonah’s sin in his face? OR

Psalm 103:8-12 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

jonah Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. Hebrews 8:12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.

jonah TRUTH #1 about God—He is a God of grace who doesn’t hold grudges

jonah 2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

jonah “The gospel gives us something remarkably different. Through the gospel God counts your sins against Christ, not against you. He offers us acceptance based not on what we do or don’t do, but on what Christ has already done. It’s an acceptance that can be neither gained by our achievements nor forfeited by our failures. Nothing in this world can promise you such total acceptance and favor—nothing. And that’s what makes his grace so amazing.” TT

jonah TRUTH #2 about God—He is a God of law who doesn’t budge an inch.

jonah “God doesn’t bend to make our lives easier, or temporarily better by lessening any of His demands or standards.”

jonah “God’s grace isn’t seen in the lessening of his demands toward us; he always has and always will demand perfect obedience. His grace is experienced when we come to realize that his perfect demands for each of us have already been met by Jesus. He lived the life we couldn’t live and died the death we should have died.”

jonah TRUTH #2 about God—He is a God of law who doesn’t budge an inch. BUT those demands of the law have been satisfied by Jesus.

jonah TRUTH#3 about God—He never gives up on His kids!

jonah “If accomplishing Project Nineveh was all God cared about, he could have discarded Jonah and found a more reliable prophet.”

jonah “Jonah was God’s project! God comes after Jonah not because he needs Jonah, but because Jonah needs God.”

jonah DID God know Jonah would run?

jonah DID God know Jonah would run? Then WHY did He ask Jonah to go?

jonah DID God know Jonah would run? Then WHY did He ask Jonah to go? one expression of God’s amazing grace is that He pursues our rescue even though we cannot do one thing for him.

jonah “God doesn’t need you and me to increase his value and esteem. In and of himself he is already of infinite value and worth. The reason he seeks sinners, saves sinners, and sends sinners like Jonah (and like you and me) is that God loves sinners.”

jonah “Cheer up; you’re a lot worse off than you think you are, but in Jesus you’re far more loved than you ever could have imagined.” Jack Miller

jonah TRUTH#3 about God—He never gives up on His kids!

jonah TRUTH#3 about God—He never gives up on His kids! God is more interested in you than He is in the work that you do

jonah TRUTH#3 about God—He never gives up on His kids! God is more interested in you than He is in the work that you do God pursues us NOT because He needs us BUT because we need HIM

jonah TRUTH#3 about God—He never gives up on His kids! God is more interested in you than He is in the work that you do God pursues us NOT because He needs us BUT because we need HIM God’s amazing grace is poured out on those who grasp/understand that apart from Him we can do nothing

jonah “Jesus was a friend of sinners not because he winked at sin, ignored sin, or enjoyed light-hearted revelry with those engaged in immorality. Jesus was a friend of sinners in that he came to save sinners and was very pleased to welcome sinners who were open to the gospel, sorry for their sins, and on their way to putting their faith in Him.” Kevin DeYoung
