Shape, space and measure ELG - Home learning poster This poster can be used to support the development of shape, space and measure at home, a great resource for parents. www.earlybirdyeducation.com

Shape, space and measure Introduce measures when cooking and allow children to explore with different measures. Introduce vocab e.g. we need more water. Is this heavy? Hoe much flour do we need? Encourage children to be aware of their surroundings and look at everyday pattern and shape. Why not go on a shape hunt? What shapes are these buildings? Look around London and local environment. What about the patterns you can see? What colours? Sizes? Shapes are there? Involve children in the process of distance, time and positon. For example, talk about the times of journeys, different routes to take, time and routine of the day/outing. When out and about give your child a local map, can they follow certain paths? find different amenities? Stops? Shape, space and measure Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them. Allow children to use real money when going shopping. Let them pay for small things in corner shops, supermarket and give them the chance to explore different coins, change and amounts. www.earlybirdyeducation.com
