Self-Assembly into the Condensed Phase NIRT: Nanometer Stoichiometric Particle Compound Solutions and Control of their Self-Assembly into the Condensed Phase Chris Sorensen, Christer Aakeroy, Amit Chakrabarti, Ken Klabunde and Bruce Law Kansas State University Departments of Physics and Chemistry The sizes of superclusters of 5 nm Au/C12SH NPs formed with different quench temps, from 65C. Goals of our project are: 1 Develop new synthetic methods for creation of large amounts of a large variety of nearly monodisperse nanoparticles. Explore and then control the solution behavior of nanoparticles. Explore and then control self assembly of nanoparticles. 2 3 Synthesis of CdS, CdSe and CdTe TEM images clearly show that replacing the methyl-ligands with ligands terminated with a hydrogen-bond functionality plays a significant role in the ordering of nanoparticles. Dodecylamine gold nanoparticles form an ordered superlattice. 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid particles form fractal type aggregation, consistent with relatively strong hydrogen bond interactions. In comparison, very little interaction is observed between 11-mercaptoundecan-1-ol nanoparticles, however still significantly different to dodecylamine gold nanoparticles. Evaporate bulk material into frozen organic matrix (SMAD). Digestive ripen, i.e. heat for a few hours in the presence of ligands such as TOP, TOPO, Oleyl amine. Gram quantities produced.
