5.1b How Do I know What I Know?

Seven Ways To Be Smart Most people used to think that intelligence could only be measured by intelligence tests and that good grades in Math and Science meant you were really smart. Researchers now say that there are actually seven basic types of intelligences. We all have a bit of each intelligence in different amounts. That’s what makes us all unique and special. God possesses all of these intelligences and more. Our gifts and intelligences are how each of us are made in His image.

Word Smart Verbal intelligence Intelligence of language books and stories These people read, write and speak well.

Number Smart Logical intelligence Can find a systematic approach to many problems. They can find patterns, make connections, find rational solutions and usually do well in Math and Science

Picture Smart Spatial intelligence Able to interpret and create images Artistic and design oriented Good at painting, sculpting, designing and building.

Body Smart Physical intelligence Able to perform well in sports or dance. These people tend to be quite active and have good strength, endurance, poise and coordination.

Sound and Rhythm Smart Musical/rhythmic intelligence Can hear, mimic, appreciate and create different types of music and rhythms. People who are good at sports (e.g. basketball) are also have a well developed rhythmic intelligence – they need this to dribble and pass well.

People Smart Intelligence of relationships Can understand other people, make them feel comfortable, motivate them, empathize with them.

Self Smart Intelligence of the self Can figure out why they feel and act a certain way. They often spend time alone meditating and thinking. They are often good at helping others too.
