Christology The Deity of Christ

The Doctrine of the Deity of Christ Between Orthodoxy and Apostasy!

Testimony of the Old Testament The term “Lord” used often in the New Testament in reference to Christ is actually derived from the Old Testament usage of Lord (Adonai). The various contexts of the Old Testament usage reveal that Christ is the person in view. In that respect Adonai is clearly defined as being God. (Psa. 38:15)

The Divinity of Messiah in Psalm Two He is called the son of God, which, as has been shown, implies equality with God. He is invested with universal absolute dominion. He is the Jehovah whom the people are commanded in verse 11 to worship. All are required to acknowledge his authority and do Him homage. Those are pronounced blessed who put their trust in Him.

Psa. 45:6 – Messiah is God – Hebrews 1:8 Psa. 72:8,16 – Messiah has universal and eternal dominion Psa. 110 – Messiah is seated at the right hand of God Isa. 7:14 – Messiah is God with us (Immanuel) Isa. 9:6 – Messiah is the Mighty God Mic. 5:2 – Messiah is from everlasting

Jer. 23:6 – Messiah is the Lord our Righteousness Dan. 7:9-14 – Messiah is attended by the heavenly hosts and has eternal dominion Mal. 3:1-4 – Messiah is the promised Lord who will purge and purify

The Testimony of the Actions and Nature of Christ All the Attributes of Deity Holiness, Truth, Immutability, Omniscience, Omnipresence, Eternality, and Omnipotence All the Prerogatives of Deity Creation, Forging Sin, Commanding Authority, Imparting eternal life, Resurrection, Judgment, Angels, Worship, Sovereignty

The Testimony of the Epistles Since doctrine is couched primarily in the epistles it is important to ascertain that they also attest to the deity of Christ. Rom. 9:1-5; Eph. 1:20-23; Phi. 2:5-11; Col. 1:12-20; 2;9; 1 Tim. 6:13-16; Tit. 2:13; Heb. 1:1-3 These and other portions of the epistles emphasize the uniqueness of Christ and prove Him to be infinitely more than the good and great teacher acknowledged by liberals. He is God who became incarnate into human flesh without losing any aspect of His deity.
