The action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. What is immigration? The action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country.

What is emigration? The act of leaving one’s country with the intent to settle in another country.

Push factors of immigration Push factor - factors that force people to move Ex: Overpopulation Religious peace Lack of job opportunity Natural hazards

Pull factors of immigration Pull factors - things that attract people to an area Ex: Religion Land availability Family ties Political freedom

Impact of migration Multiple languages Multiple religions Customs and tradition exchanged Diffusion – the spreading of idea and traits

Ex: neighborhoods, school districts, states Spatial divisions Regions of the Earth’s surface over which groups of people establish social, economic, and political control Ex: neighborhoods, school districts, states
