LSA RAIN Awards Day One Cost Sharing and Effort December 9th, 2015 Presenter: Peggy Westrick
What is cost sharing: Mandatory— Voluntary What is mandatory When can I even cost share anymore? Voluntary when and how to show? Using PAF for UM Commitments
Why would I cost share: I could get additional University funds to support my project. If I use in-kind faculty salary I can keep better track of faculty effort/availability.
Why wouldn’t I cost share I have to spend these funds the same way as the sponsor says I have to spend their funds Have to track them separately
Things to consider: At Proposal stage? At Award? At Close-out? Using eGIF Using eRPM Time to deadline Requirements from sponsor At Award? When to request Did budget get cut Is it effort At Close-out? Did I meet the requirement
Who approves cost sharing: At Department? Faculty member should weigh options and decide if their RESIN funds and the department’s support makes up 1/3 of the request. At College? Use eGIF and route two weeks prior to sponsor deadline. DivAD reviews and decides. At University? College helps request from UMOR if at or over $30K by using eGIF.
