Religion in the Middle Ages

Directions: You will be assigned one of the three religions. Ancient Roman religion Judaism, or Christianity. Read the handout and gather information as your assigned religion (you will share this information) Write down five facts about the religion on your graphic organizer in complete sentences 10 Minutes

Table Sharing You will be sharing information in rounds Rounds will last 8 minutes Two groups will “present’ while other students travel to hear groups’ presentations and write down information to complete their graphic organizer By the end of the rounds everyone should have information about all 3 religions

Ancient Religion of Rome A religion with many gods= a Pagan religion Jupiter (Zeus)-god of the sky, ruler of the gods Pluto-(Hades)- god of the underworld Neptune(Posiedon) god of the sea Diana( Artemis)- protector of animals, moon Juno (Hera)-goddess of women, mothers Venus( Aphrodite)-goddess of love

Ancient Religion of Rome Everything that happened caused by the gods You must please the gods ( worshipping, temples, home shrines, ceremonies, feast days. If you did not please the gods bad things would happen (earthquake, death, disease)

A new religion-Christianity Worshipped only one god Originated in the Middle East Holy Book-the Bible At first, just an old religion followed in a new way-Judaism Became popular very quickly-no one in Rome expected it to become so popular Some officials tried to stop it from growing

Christianity in the Empire In 300 CE Roman Emperor became Christian Most of the empire became Christian Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire

Compare & Contrast Choose two of the religions that were discussed in class (Judaism, Christianity, Roman Religion) and write a paragraph comparing the two. Choose 2 differences and 2 similarities. The paragraph should have a topic sentence at least 3 supporting sentences and a concluding sentence.
