English 10 students! Welcome!

Who am I? Mrs. Bowe. I have been teaching here at Penn since 1997. I have taught 9, 10, 11, and 12th English through those years. I graduated from University of Delaware. Before that I graduated from West Chester East High School.

I have two dogs and two cats. What else? I have two dogs and two cats. I have an 9 year old son. Here we are meeting Swoop at the Eagles pre- season game That’s me wearing a cowboy hat so I wouldn’t get sunburned. That’s my son.

Course Description/Grading Policy Here it is. Pay attention to the bold face type. Note what an “I” and a zero mean for your grade. . “I” = incomplete. You didn’t have the assignment completed on time. You have TWO WEEKS to submit this assignment before the “I” becomes a zero for non-submission. If you submit it after the incomplete becomes a zero, you will see a late penalty applied. You won’t get full credit, but you’ll get most. If the assignment has already been returned, you’ll need to see me about the alternative assignment. If you don’t have your summer reading assignment done by today, you have until August 28th. After August 28, you will see an “I” (incomplete) in the gradebook. On September 11th, the “I” becomes a zero. After that, you’ll receive credit for submitting the assignment, but with a late penalty applied. If you are a new enrollee, you need to get started, but I will set individual due dates with you. SIGNATURE PAGES for the course description are due: Sept. Sept 10/11.

What is happening this year? You are in for the journey of your life! Unit 1 – Knowing yourself Unit 2 – Knowing the world Unit 3 – Knowing intolerance Unit 4 – Knowing our fate

You too will learn to be credible! Remember CSET from 9th grade?

Reading! Oh the things you will read! Ask me about the extra credit assignment. I dare you. Extra credit - Sell This Book Sept 2015! Ask me about the classroom books around the room. (yes, you may borrow them so long as you sign them out with me. Don’t be a book thief!)

WRITING! Don’t be silent – you will be writing. A lot. In all your classes. Work with me on this one.

Internet? We’re in a red zone currently, BUT – you are required to go check out my weebly site. http://wpboweela.weebly.com We’ll have all sorts of information up. You’ll also need to register for the REMIND app – I’ll be using this to send reminders out about due dates and other information. You also need to register for the online textbook – who wants to carry around an extra 7.5 pounds. Please! www.classzone.com – activation code = 4445780 - 260

Vignette Assignment Who are you? Think of the one word you would use to answer that question. Don’t call it out. Write it on the BACK of your name tent. Be ready to share. You will be drafting your vignette for the next class period. You will remember to follow the directions and to complete the draft.

Homework Course Description signature sheet – due ___Sept 10 /Sept 11_ Vignette draft due: __August 27 August 28_________ Summer Reading essay due: August 28: Late penalties applied after Sept. 11. Extra Credit assignment due: Last day of September.
