Henry VIII’s new government L.O. to develop an understanding of Henry VIII’s new style of government and his foreign relations by reading and making charts. Meritocracy = a society in which people are prommooted on the basis of their skill s and achievements over their blood and family connections.

Plan the essay for homework ‘Henry VII’s financial policies were the most important reason for the success of his rule.’ Assess the validity of this view. In the long term Henry’s financial policies were the most important reason for the success of his rule. In the short term Henry suffered from the threats of pretenders but in the long term Henry overcame these threats. This was a reason for the success of his rule. In the long term Henry’s ability to create legitimacy was the most important reason for the success of his rule. In the long term Henry was able to build a successful and positive relationships with foreign countries which was the reason for the success of Henry’s rule.

How did Henry’s VIII rule differ from his fathers? Actions taken by Henry External factors Henry removed Empson and Dudley. Henry VII’s chief financial enforcers. Arrested the Duke of Buckingham and put him in the Tower because Henry wanted to get rid of powerful men who could challenge his power. Removed the council Learned in Law. Privy Chamber became more important in Henry VIII’s government. Cancelled 175 bonds and recognizances. Henry focused more on the appearance of his government. Henry was less involved in the day to day running of govern ment. Instead he promoted people from outside the nobility who were good administrators. Henry wanted to revive hostilities with France. Renaissance – new ideas were emerging in Europe and these were impacting on England. E.g. the growth of Humanism. There are lots of other young monarchs in Europe who all want to make a mark.

Henry also faced challenges of a lack of legitimacy, pretenders attempting to seize the throne and problems with foreign relations. However at root all of these challenges were due to Henry’s’ crisis of legitimacy. Agree Disagree Rebellions were the greatest challenge Henry VII faced to his rule. Firstly, Hneyr’s lack of legitimacy was the moset significant challenge that Henry faced throughout his reign. Secondly, Pretenders to the thone were the least important challenge that Henry faced during his reign. Finally, Forgien relations was an important ffactor. that Henry faced during his reign.
