Overview Awarded: DFK Foul By defender In penalty area Taken by any player PK is in play: Kicked Moves Forward Online Training Script: A penalty kick is awarded when a defending player commits one of the ten fouls punishable by a direct free kick against an opponent within the penalty area. A goal can be directly scored from the taking of the penalty kick. Awarding a penalty kick is based on the location of where the foul was originally committed, not the position of the ball when the foul took place. It is important for officials to know the local rules of competition since some small sided and recreational youth games may not allow for penalty kicks or even have penalty areas or penalty arcs lined on the field. Proper setup for blue team’s penalty kick. PENALTY KICK SETUP AR R Once we award a penalty kick, we need to get everyone and everything in its place before the kick is taken. Many, if not most of the players will be congregating inside of the penalty area. Before you can allow the kick to be taken, you must do the following: 1. Get all players except the kicker and goalkeeper outside of the penalty area; and 2. Outside of the penalty arc, and 3. Laterally behind the ball. 4. Make sure that the keeper is on the line – can move from side to side but may not move off of the line until the ball is in play. 5. Kicker should be identified and given the ball so that he/she can place it on the penalty mark. Let the player place it – and make sure only that part of it is touching the penalty mark. 6. AR should move to the intersection of the goal line and the penalty area line. 7. Referee should move to preferred position. 8. You can check with the goalkeeper as a courtesy, but be careful as he/she may be angry and waste time, etc. Once everyone is in place, blow the whistle and allow the kick to proceed.
