Essential Question How is humor an effective way to make a point?

Four Techniques of Satire Definition Four Techniques of Satire the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. Exaggeration - To enlarge, increase, or represent something beyond normal bounds so that it becomes ridiculous and its faults can be seen.  Incongruity - To present things that are out of place or are absurd in relation to its surroundings.  Reversal - To present the opposite of the normal order (e.g., the order of events, hierarchical order).  Parody - To imitate the techniques and/or style of some person, place, or thing.

Parody in Advertising What was the first thing you noticed about the ad? What is being made fun of in the ad? What is different in this ad from the original? Did the parody make you look at the original advertisers differently?

Example Parody Poems https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/56159/this-is-just-to-say https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/57326/variations-on-a-theme-by-william-carlos-williams

Create your own parody Find an ad that you would like to create a parody of – this can be a magazine ad, online ad, or commercial. Decide on the message you want to send with your parody – what are you satirizing and why. Use a meme creator to create your own parody and upload to padlet.
