ASSESSMENTS: ELA Blast – SAS Portal 2018 Testing Reduction-Pennsylvania plans to reduce the ELA 3-8 PSSA assessment from 4 to 3 sections. This will take effect with PSSA testing in 2018. The mode-specific writing prompt has been removed and the number of language multiple choice items has been reduced. PDE will post the revised ELA test blueprint when finalized. To assist districts in meeting the mode- specific writing standards, PDE is currently working on performance-based writing assessment resources to add to the SAS portal. 2018 Item Samplers Keystone and PSSA Item Samplers will be posted by the end of September.

Assessments: Testing Windows for PSSA Testing windows will remain the same for this year, with Districts making a local decision as to where they will give the test within the window (since the test was shortened). In 2018-19, the calendar will be built differently, with a speed-up in the return of scores (with a make-up window removed to help speed up score return).

Accountability: The Future Ready PA Index The Future Ready PA Index is still in development, with ‘still’ screenshots being shared by November. It will take the place of SPP as the public document, however SPP will remain due to Educator Effectiveness. More information, including an overview, can be found at the PDE website, www.education.pa.gov. 3 Components – State Assessment Measures, On-track Measures, College and Career Readiness Measures Percent Advanced will be not be used for extra credit, but in another section of the Index. On-track Measures include Grade 3 Reading Indicators of Success, Grade 7 Mathematics Indicators of Success, English Language Proficiency, Chronic Absenteeism Career Readiness Measures Future Ready will go into effect next Fall…
